THE CHALLENGE

On December 26, 2023, NJCU experienced a catastrophic water loss event during winter break. A total of 27 separate pipe failures resulted in extensive flooding across three academic buildings, placing critical campus facilities at risk of prolonged closure. The scale and complexity of the loss exceeded the capacity of the initially engaged restoration contractor.


Recognizing the severity of the situation, the insurance carrier’s large-loss adjuster escalated the response and engaged LA Restore360 due to our proven experience, certifications, and ability to manage high-impact, multi-building losses.


Upon arrival, our team met with NJCU’s Director of Facilities, who was under extreme pressure to restore the affected buildings before students and faculty returned from break. Failure to meet this timeline would have disrupted academic operations and campus reopening.

LA Restore360 mobilized immediately, deploying a 25-person response team to stabilize the buildings and execute full remediation and reconstruction.


The scope included:

  • Emergency water extraction across three buildings
  • Controlled demolition and debris removal
  • Structural drying and large-scale dehumidification
  • Targeted mold remediation
  • Full reconstruction and finish restoration


Throughout the process, we worked closely with NJCU leadership to select durable, institution-approved flooring and finishes, ensuring both speed and long-term performance.

THE results

Despite the magnitude and complexity of the loss, all remediation and reconstruction work was completed within a three-week window. This allowed the affected academic buildings to be fully restored and reopened before the university resumed its academic session.


To successfully close out the project:

  • All required third-party environmental testing was coordinated and completed
  • Independent hygienist clearance was obtained
  • Buildings received approval for safe re-occupancy


NJCU was able to resume normal operations without disruption to students, faculty, or academic programming.
